Screenflow 8.2.2 crashes Macbook Pro (Mojave 10.14.3) while recording...

The last few times I have tried a screen recording, with video and audio, about a minute into the recording my MBP just goes black, i.e. shuts down and restarts.

Not sure what's going on...

Any ideas???

  • Crashes here too. ScreenFlow 8.2.3 (31394) on MBP 13 2018 2.3 i5 4 core, 10.14.6. Reset SMC and NVRAM doesn't help.

  • Stephan Eggermont and the problem is gone if I connect an external Logitech C525 webcam to it to record audio and video (on a hyperdrive 8-1)

  • Stephan Eggermont I did some more experiments. If the external webcam is connected I can record all combinations of audio and video from either facetime camera or webcam. If I disconnect the webcam from the hyper drive I have no problems. Without the hyper drive the problem occurs and I crash within 1-3 minutes, when it is connected I don't. (All experiments have been recording MBP screen, video and audio).

Stephan Eggermont I'd like to help but it's not clear to me what role your Hyperdrive has in the process. Please explain in a way someone can match your setup and reproduce the issue.

  • CraigS my MBP has 4 thunderbolt 3 ports and the logitech c525 is USB-A, so I needed a converter. I just started triangulating the problem. As earlier in this thread there were suggestions about external webcams and audio, I tried that. I had successfully used an earlier 8 version  Screenflow on that machine before, connected to the hyperdrive. When I wanted to demonstrate Screenflow to a colleague today, I only had power connected, nothing else. That crashed, so I updated OS and Screenflow before trying again, and when that didn’t help found this forum. The SMC and NVRam reset I tried but that didn’t help. My earlier successful recordings were with the hyperdrive connected on the left  thunderbolt ports, and today I used a right one

  • CraigS All todays recordings were presenting a keynote document. An up to date FCP is installed on the machine. It has more than 800 GB free space

Can you test left vs right ports, rebooting after you attach the hyperdrive?

  • Hi,

I have the same problem. I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports). I started to use screenflow yesterady and it crashes after 2 minutes of recording. I tried 2 more times, same thing. Then while screenflow was open but I did not start recording my computer crashed again.

Meddy Laforet I'd like to help but In order to troubleshoot I'd need a description so we can reproduce on a new 13" MBP.

Keep in mind the original poster actually didn't have a "crash." The screen goes black and the computer shut down. Technically that may not be a "crash."

  • CraigS Both sides work. Only restart happens (without saving document open in keynote) when no hyperdrive is connected

     I'm sorry but I don't understand this.

Are you saying the computer shuts down when no hyperdrive is connected but works when it is?

I really need a step by step, including complete configuration and attached devices when it does shut down and when it doesn't.

    Computer Model and OS (MBP 13 2018 2.3 i5 4 core, 10.14.6)
    All devices attached. List
All video and audio sources being recorded by ScreenFlow. List

    When it shuts down.
And when it doesn't shut down.
    (please include both).
