Looking for the source of lagging video output

Hello,

During our service today we had two of our four cameras (Birddog P200s) lag at times.  I'm trying to find the source of the lagging.  Our Wirecast software is up-to-date and I'm thinking it's more on the Birddog side than Wirecast.  I recently did the major firmware update to both the cameras (4.5.3414-LTS) and controller (4.5.203-LTS).  I also updated to NDI 5.

  Anyone else experiencing this?

Brian Willis

  • PS  I did monitor the cameras via NDI Studio during our second service and I didn't noticing any major laggyness but there was some.  At that time, I was only recording to disk and not sending to our streaming service Subsplash.

Brian Willis If you're seeing lag in NDI Studio it does seem like a Birddog issue.
In Wirecast, as long as the latency doesn't drift you can set a delay for either video or audio for the shot and you can try changing the Timestamps setting for the shot as well.
Perhaps there's a network bandwidth issue as well. If there's other bandwidth on the network perhaps it's being saturated. One test might be to do a test with just one camera and see if improves. Four cameras may be a lot for some networks unless you're using NDIHX.

    • CraigS Thanks for the response.  Sorry for the delay.  We're still having issues.  I'm assuming we're running NDI HX...I downloaded and installed NDI 5.

We need verified information. As per above, you need to confirm that. You may also need to check and update the firmware of your cameras. Again please test as I requested with one camera only on the network (unplug the other cameras) and in a new Wirecast document.

  • CraigS Ok...sorry another delayed response.  I believe I have caused all my problems with our cameras.  We've been investigating installing a PTZ tracking program to act as a manned camera during our services.  I had installed the software, PolyMotion Chat (PMC) from Mark Roberts Motion Control (MRMC), and attempted to run the software on our 420 box...with Wirecast Pro.  So, after 2 weeks of not knowing way the cameras were acting up, I decided to only run Wirecast Pro like normal this morning.  After noticing the cameras acting up again, I removed the MRMC PMC software and re-installed Wirecast Pro.  After rebooting the system, I launched Wirecast with a newly built Wirecast document.  Everything worked like a charm!   No lagging cameras.  We do have another issue, but I'll research that and possibly post about it separately.

Sorry for all the confusion!  I appreciate you helping me try and figure it out.

Brian Willis Thanks for reporting that. Your troubleshooting and workflow may well help other users solve this as well. It's appreciated.
