Apple Silicon / M1 Support

I bet one of the biggest pain points  most of us have is slow export times. I've got a JUICED macbook pro and it's still painfully slow.

So - I know this is early (and please don't make me submit a feature  request) - but are there plans to get Screenflow to work on the new apple silicon machines?

If so, could you shed light on how hard that would be for Screenflow? Since it's a native app, does it just compile over? Or is there significant work that needs to be done for it to work?

They have touted faster export, and I'd go out and buy a mac mini today if this meant I could speed up my exports.

thanks!

  • about to pull the trigger on a new M1, but your disclaimer says "The completion of this work depends on several of our integrated partners updating their applications as well."

    So...

What, specifically is not yet working on the M1s that 'depends on integrated partners'?

Celina The Apple Silicon version isn't in our check for update system yet. It's here.

CraigS Thanks. Downloading now. Let's see if that helps. Just FYI, currently I can record video and audio, but not desktop. It says I need to give SFlow access to screen Recording, which I have but still doesn't work. I'll LYK how 9.0.6 goes. Thanks.

Celina You have to give it access to Screen Recording specifically but it'll also need Files and Folders and Full Disk Access and Accessibility. You need to go through the entire list and make sure ScreenFlow access is enabled.

CraigS I don't have screenflow option in files and folders and full access, but 9.0.6 seems to be fully functioning on Big Sur 11.1. Yay!

Sometimes you have to do something to access a file or folder to get it to appear. That's why the permissions thing is so tricky. For example, Photos doesn't show up until you try to import something from Photos and then it won't work until you go into Security & Privacy where it will have suddenly appeared and you can enable it.

Good to hear it's working though. 👍

  • I'm thinking to buy Screenflow, but demo is not working on my M1 Macbook Air.
It opens, it starts recording, but after i stops record and clicks "add to document" there is no any files in it.

I have added all access in "Security and Privacy"

Anton Roo. ScreenFlow 9.0.7 is M1 compatible.
Make sure you are on Big Sur 11.2.3 and not 11.1.x
Please check Screen Recording in Security and Privacy.

Anton Roo. Perhaps you have some third-party software interfering.
I'd suggest creating a New User Admin account and testing there. Reboot the computer and log into the new account. Make sure you've got everything set in Security & Privacy in the New Admin Account.

    • CraigS creating New User Admin account works. But could you please suggest something to do in MY user account to fix the problem?

Anton Roo. Interesting find and fix. You're welcome of course. Sometimes creating a new Admin account for testing can help you trace back and find what setting might be different in the other account.

I see that Screenflow 9.0.7 is M1 compatible, but when will Screenflow be optimized for M1? I have a new, very powerful MacBook Pro with M1 chip and Screenflow 9.0.7 runs VERY slow on the machine.

Jenny Lee ScreenFlow 10 is even better on M1. Major backend improvements.
