Apple Silicon / M1 Support
I bet one of the biggest pain points most of us have is slow export times. I've got a JUICED macbook pro and it's still painfully slow.
So - I know this is early (and please don't make me submit a feature request) - but are there plans to get Screenflow to work on the new apple silicon machines?
If so, could you shed light on how hard that would be for Screenflow? Since it's a native app, does it just compile over? Or is there significant work that needs to be done for it to work?
They have touted faster export, and I'd go out and buy a mac mini today if this meant I could speed up my exports.

Any update on this one ... it's worrying how slowly ScreenFlow are moving with this transition. I have a few licenses and this is impeding my businesses move to hardware which would otherwise offer a massive productivity improvement.
Is there a specific holdup? can we have a rough ETA? days, weeks, months?

CraigS Thanks for this heads up. Will it be full M1 native or on Rosetta 2? I mean will it make use of all performance and speed benefits of the M1 chip natively while editing and during multi-pass x264 exporting both? And please do update x264 too to the latest version as the very latest x264 versions are giving much better export quality at the same bitrates than the previous x264 versions, in Handbrake at least. I self-host and stream my videos so that I can give my listeners full 320kbps hi-res audio in the videos. So please make your multi-pass x264 quality on par with Handbrake so that we don't have to export huge Prores files of 10s of Gbs from Screenflow into external hard-drives just to compress it in Handbrake at better x264 quality at the same video bitrate than Screenflow does, because it has the latest x264 codec or better compression in some way. I know you always do update x264 and thanks so much for that. You already know that so many people buy Screenflow because of its awesome direct multi-pass x264 export instead of going through the hugely cumbersome multi-step Final Cut > Compresser > Handbrake way to get the stellar x264 direct web-streaming compression quality for self-hosting and self-streaming. This is so critical for me that I moved from Windows to Mac just because Screenflow provides the highest quality direct x264 export which no other Windows (and even Mac) video editor in my knowledge does. Lost of interest to know about this, looking to buy a Mac mini M1 and screenflow must work on it in order to go through.
Couple of questions, will version 8 be available to work on the M1 ?
Or will only version 9 be on there ?
If version 8 will never be available on the M1, it should be interesting to have a discount for upgrade :-)
Def agree with releasing a product with as close as 0 bugs instead of making the move on the rush. Screenflow is amazing, thanks for you work guys !!!

Will version 8 be always capped on Catalina and never (ever) follow on the newer OS and hardware ?

Lenail If you have version 8 you will get a heavy discount for v9. You can check the upgrades section on the screenflow page . I can't remember the price. I'm upgrading as soon as they release the M1 version.

version 9 is incompatible with M1 as it stands/mainly recording from computer - awaiting news that it will work - wish I had known that before upgrading and purchasing the M1.

Cathi Hargaden Standard for all OS (and especially hardware changes) is to assume it's not compatible unless you check with the developer. We have a notice with further details. This is not specific to Telestream. This is generally what users should do with any operating system or hardware change. If the change is major it means applications will need to be updated as well. The ScreenFlow M1 version is almost ready to go.

CraigS yes I am not a techie that much and didnt realise that buying a brand new computer with a new chip would be a problem with other software - but it doesnt matter I am flipping back to the other computer - screenflow 9 part of it works and the recording doesnt but if it is imminent that is fine.

CraigS Any chance it will behave like the earlier versions (7.2) in terms of the audio driver or will we still have to use the Telestream driver with it's extended latency?

Kenny Gioia Apple made changes that ended the use of that kind of driver. That was out of our hands. We are working on improving latency but, as we've stated, Apple would have to develop an API.

CraigS Yeah. I know this was out of your hands. I just thought that maybe the M1 chip would bypass their need to fix it or it would fix it and it would just work the way it did before in earlier versions.

Kenny Gioia Part of what Apple ended was kernel extensions which is a software/security-based decision.
