Transcoding from DNXHD185X to H264 - Green Video?

Episode 7.1

We are trying to transcode 30 minutes movs from DNX185x to H264. Avid codecs are preinstalled on the machine.

It is unsuccessful and generates a green video.

Any thoughts as to what we may be doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

  • Using Episode's Generate Preview File... do you see video?

"Unsuccessful" does this mean you're getting an error message? If so, please include that information.

If you just mean you see green when playing back the file, the player you're using could be a factor. Please test in the free version of our Telestream Switch.

If you are using a custom template please test with one of our default such as one of our Web Download > Quicktime > H.264 setting. Please include which setting you test with.

  • Hi.

We just Drag'nDrop from System encoder.

Depends on the length of the file. Short clips complete - long clips don't work.

The player we have used Quicktime (with Avid Codecs installed) and Avid.  We will try the switch though.

We also have the memory issue as in a previous post and have tried restarting the machine prior to the conversion.

  • Hi,

try to make a video mixdown in Avid before you export your DNxHD file.

Sometimes a mixture of DNxHD flavours (10 bit and 8 bit, 120 and 185) causes trouble.

  • Jürgen Kaiser I'd like to help but I'd need a more detailed description. Please describe your workflow so we can repeat your steps and explain what trouble it is you're having. Also I'd need to know your Episode version number and operating system version number as well.

  • NA Please test in Switch and Quicktime is deprecated on Windows. If shorter clips work but longer clips don't it might be memory or storage related.

You could try create a New User Admin account since that would have completely fresh settings and test in that account.

Also what is deployment location and how much storage do you have there and the system drive as well, just in case it's storage or cache related.
