Vote - Add video files for template input instead of recording when opening

I like the templates in ScreenFlow 8, however - I'd like to have the ability, instead of starting a new project with a recording or screencast - with adding a pre-recorded video or let us open the new project to then replace the placeholder with a video of our choice.

  • Can you list step by step how you would like it to work? It'll help the developers understand how to implement.

  • No problem. In my humble opinion this can be like this...

When creating a template there should be one or two additional choice(s):

The new types may be called "Pre-recoded video clip", "Existing video footage" the second additional type may be a more generic one like "Chose later", "Decide later", "Undefined" or similar.

Then let the user save the template having one (or even more) placeholder(s) in it.

When creating a new project based on such a template a dialog should pop up and  ask the user for the pre-recorded video. The user then may be able to search for his footage for example from a folder.

A cancel button here should be available (or similar) to let the user create a new document based on the template without having made a decission from where the may footage come.

As we now have a document (and not a template anymore)...

There are multiple ways one can go to give the placeholder content, if still no choice or recording has made. Such as a double-click on the placeholder which may open again a similar "Placeholder Clip Type" dialog as above. Here the user can decide which type he likes to exchange the placeholder with. So options like starting a new screen recording, use a camera and microphone or an iOS device recording or finally chosing a file from a folder.

The second way would simply be - dragging and dropping over the placeholder the footage someone likes.

So it gives us more options and flexibility to use templates.

You can have pre-existing clips saved in a template in addition to the placeholders.

Perhaps you want a file placeholder clip instead?

  • CraigS However, when using such a template, I don't want to be forced to start any kind of recording. Let us open the document and then via a click on the placeholder for example replace the placeholder with the appropiate action/footage.

I think others have asked to avoid that as well with templates.

Yes, this makes sense as some want to replace a placeholder file rather than make a recording.
