Unable to start recording message - WHY?!

OK, as y'all can see, my permissions are set properly. It's always worked, and just suddenly doesn't for no apparent reason.

Things I have tried:
- turning permissions off and on again, and restarting both the application and machine.
- trying all the different ways of recording my screen (from template, and just new recording)
- shutting all the way down, and then restarting  from scratch.

I'm stuck. It's screen flow 10 operating on Mac OS Monterey, 12.0.1

Please make sure you've updated to ScreenFlow 10.0.5.

That's a very old version of Monterey. Please update to 12.3.1 in case there are macOS issues causing this.

You may also want to make sure ScreenFlow has permissions for Full Disk Access and Files and Folders.

  • OK everything is as up-to-date as it can be. I tried a reset/reboot, no luck. Tried deleting files in the preferences and cache? No luck. All permissions are fine. I have no clue what to do.

  • The message keeps saying the same as pictured above, and I've checked ALL permissions, and they are turned ON.

  • Fixed it, but this is super weird. Why did this work? I went to preferences, turned OFF screenflow helper, quit and restarted, tried to record, no dice. Went back to preferences, turned the helper back ON, quit and restarted, voila, it works. I had to reactivate my serial number though, it had completely forgotten me for some reason, but it works.

  • NOPE spoke too soon, No clue why, but it doesn't work anymore. Closed the app, reopened it, and it doesn't work. Right back where I started.

Deborah R Fillman If it started working and then stopped then it's possible something is interfering with it.

Next step is to create a New User Admin account and test in that account. Perhaps there's an issue specific to the account you're using.

I'm still not seeing Full Disk Access and Files and Folders.

Deborah R Fillman Hold Shift, go to Help > Gather Support Diagnostic and hit the Reset button. Remove all external devices and monitors. Reboot the computer and try to record the built-in monitor with nothing else running.

  • Finally got support directly via phone. Turns out I had to uninstall the application and completely reinstall it. Updating the OS (they said) had done something to corrupt the permissions, and I had to nuke them completely with a clean install. That did the trick, but what a mess.

Agreed. Someone else in support noted they've also told customers to go in and remove all the permissions and start that all over again. Seems OS updates are impacting permissions even though it still shows the app has permissions. Sorry about that.
