Refresh RSS feed text ticker

Hi,
Newbie about RSS feed, I have a simple question and can't find answer :

- how does Wirecast deal with the refresh of a web page RSS feed ?
- does it check for updates and is there a way to configure the interval for the updates ?
- or does Wirecast use the source rate refresh included in the xml coded file with <sy:updateFrequency> / <sy:updatePeriod>?

Thanks for your help.
Wirecast rocks!

  • Are you having an issue with the frequency of an RSS feed updating?

  • To be clear CraigS, as Titler Live social comments moderation web window can't be opened and used outside of a LAN, I'm looking for a way to allow a remote team member (currently in another city) who is in charge of moderation, to aggregate moderated comments in an compliant file which I can import and use in Wirecast as a RSS file from the web.

I did it and it worked. But as the sy:updatePeriod declaration in the RSS file is not allowed to be less than an hour, this trick is not useful for showing live updates of comments.

As well for File option, than for RSS option, if Wirecast had an option saying : reload File (or) RSS each (x-frequency) / (y-period), where period would be minutes or even seconds, it would be really a great feature !

  • Yan Pierre le Luyer Are you on OSX or Windows? If you are on OSX, I can possibly share some code that will allow external access to Titler web dashboard from another location.

  • Yan Pierre le Luyer Did you find a solution? I'd like to do the same thing for an upcoming broadcast, i.e., have a remote team member update text for a ticker. Preferably without using Titler Live.

  • I'm in the same situation. I need to have an external source for ticker copy. I've got the rss feed working but how do I get it to refresh? In these days of remote working having a 2nd system on the LAN running tilter isn't an option.

Jamie Crausman Are you using Wirecast 13.1.3?
Can you give me the RSS feed link so I can test?
Do you have it set to scroll from right to left at some speed?

I'm testing with a CNN RSS feed and it seems to be working.

According to google I use this: http://smpfeed.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

for the rss. It works OK - I see the posts as a text source in wirecast.  Unfortunately if I update the blog page with new posts they don't seem to update in wirecast.

The scenario I'm imaging is that I've got text ticker manager working from her house that is collecting messages from social medial, vetting and selecting ones we want and then posting them to this blogspot page so they will come in to the text ticker in wirecast.

Jamie Crausman Fill out the form and note our internal case number that I posted earlier and state that it's not updating. Include a link to the RSS feed so we can have a look at it on our end.

  • I've had this working, but I just updated our software to v14 on a PC, and now the rss feed has "&nbsp" where there are extra spaces in the blog post. I can comfirm that in demo mode on a mac version 13.1.3 the characters show up properly, but on pc with v14 this is broken.

Jamie Crausman that sounds like an ASCII related issue. Fill out the form and note that this issue wasn't present in 13.1.3 and we'll work on getting this fixed.

  • Hi everyone! New and somewhat urgent question. This has been working OK for me lately, but just now I'm noticing that the scrolling rss ticker is not smooth. The video itself seems smooth enough but the scroll stutters a lot. It is prerecorded video content that I'm putting the scroll over and that footage is at 25fps. I've adjusted the encoder settings to match this.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give to settings to try and adjust.

Jamie Crausman Have you updated to Wirecast 14.0? Generally scrolling is much improved over previous versions. To see if the pre-recorded content is impacting the scroll, try the scroll by itself in the Live Area.
