SF 10 ramps CPU down so low it never finishes export?

Trying to export a large file.  Eventually, the CPU drops so low that nothing is happening.  Last night it dropped to about 6% of total CPU usage and I had to force quit.   I've tried canceling the export, but that doesn't respond either.  It's like the whole thing just falls asleep for lack of a better explanation.

Initially estimated 28 minutes for export, after 60-90 minutes it says 9 minutes remaining with a 1.8% load on the cpu

• MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
• OS version 11.6 (20G165)
• ScreenFlow version 10.0.3 (31849) - NOT Mac App Store version
• external devices - Asus monitor
• no hard drive record or playback issue
• Free hard drive space - internal HD - 36 gigs - hard drive with scratch disk - 827 gigs
• not using multiple monitors
• Complete Export settings if it's an export or encoded file playback issue
• Step by step workflow - select export, select export settings, select location, export
• Source files used in your project - 1 audio track and 1 video track of a screen recording
• Sequence running time - the project is just under 3 hours
• Error messages if any - none
• Visual or auditory description of the issue. Attach screenshot if you think it will clarify.

Drive should have at least 20% free space. The OS, possibly ScreenFlow and other apps that may be running need that space to function. This may certainly impact longer file exports.

    • CraigS 827 gigs free on the drive with the project and also where the export is going makes up about 80% free space.  Are you saying the internal drive regardless of using that external drive for both scratch and exporting needs more free space than 36 gigs to process a 10 gig project?

    • CraigS I freed up space and did another export attempt with 63 gigs free on the internal drive, although the scratch disk and export go on the external drive with 827 gigs free, and the export still cralws to 1.8% CPU usage about 3/4 in saying there is still 9 minutes left and just stays there.

Heath Close ScreenFlow may still be using temp space on the internal drive. How is the external drive connected. Drive throughput could be an issue. USB2 would be a problem. USB3 and Thunderbolt would less likely be problems. The external drive should be at least 7200rpm.

It's certainly possible. As I mention above the OS and other programs may also be using temp space. ScreenFlow may be as well. It's not just for recordings. Temp space may be used for memory as well and other short-term data movements.

Another thing to look at is Apple Activity Monitor CPU use to see overall system CPU use just in case other apps are using processes.

    • CraigS external drive is SSD on thunderbolt direct to port.  No other programs are using up resources, not only do I purposely make sure SF doesn’t have to compete with anything, I’ve already studied the analyzer looking for answers… there is plenty of resources to be exporting with.  As far as the internal HD goes, 63 gigs free on a 200 gig drive meets your 20% requirements with about 31.5% internal drive free.

Heath Close try using this utility to reset ScreenFlow (don't need to use the gather diagnostic button).

    • CraigS that worked, thank you!

Something odd must of gotten stuck in ScreenFlow. Good to hear.
