Recording Missing

I created a screen recording. When asked the option to save as new document, or add to document, I clicked Add to Document. The pull down option was "Untitled", not dashboard tour. I gave it a name and clicked OK. Now I can't find the recording. Can someone help me with this please?

Open the saved document Dashboard Tour since that's the document you added to.

You mention "I gave it a name" but I'm not sure what you mean by that. You can give a document a name when you save it but until then it's called Untitled.

If you named and saved the document Dashboard Tour as it seems you have, then that's what you added it to. Then when you save the document again the file is moved from the Temp location to the document.

Your recording should be in Dashboard Tour. If it's not then there may be steps missing in your description.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I gave it a name"
I'm not sure what the issue is with seeing "Untitled" in the pull-down since that's normal for an unsaved document.
It's not clear why you expected to say Dashboard Tour when you hadn't yet named and saved the file.
You mention you created a recording but you don't mention that you had a document open and whether it was already saved (named) or not.
Sorry but I don't want to make assumptions and you seem to be missing steps.

    • Cecilia, I know exactly what you're talking about because this exact same thing is happening to me. And I can replicate it.

CraigS When she says she "gave it a name", she's referring to the new recording. When you finish recording, a dialog comes up with the option to Create New Document or Add to Document. When you choose to Add to Document, there's an optional "Name" field to name the recording you just made. That is to what Cecilia is referring.

Your statement "if you named and saved the document Dashboard Tour as it seems you have, then that's what you added it to" is incorrect. I was able to replicate exactly what Cecilia is talking about. After recording, when the dialog box comes up with the options to Add to Document, one of the document choices is "Untitled", and another one is the saved document with a name.

When "Untitled" is chosen, but there's no Untitled document open, the recording seems to just disappear. It is NOT in my named&saved document. The clip does not appear in the files tab of any existing document, and there is no "Untitled" document where the clip can be found. Creating a new document doesn't work either as it will be called "Untitled 2", so there is no "Untitled" document. I just lost an hour-long recording due to this bug. Seems Cecilia had a similar issue.

Christopher Burgess Have you updated to 10.0.7 and does ScreenFlow have permissions for Full Disk Access or Files & Folders Access? Please list the macOS and whether you're using an external drive as well.

This would mean you have a document open already. That document may be saved or not. Please explain.

If it's a first recording and no document exists it creates a document Untitled and places it there. That document is not saved until the user does that. The recording is in the scratch location designated in ScreenFlow Preferences.

If you have a Saved document that is the choice you are given after making a new recording. My document is called Toss. There is no Untitled option as there is no untitled document open.
If you use Create New Document that document is titled Untitled and it is not yet saved. The recording is again in the scratch location designated in ScreenFlow Preferences.
