Issues with Audio Unit Plugins

I'm having an issue with Audio Units in Screenflow 10. I can add custom Audio Units but I can't get any parameters to display or the GUI to display.

I'm running ScreenFlow 10.0.5 on MacOS 12.4 on an M1 Macbook Pro. The plugins I'm trying to load are iZotope RX 9 Advanced plugins which are Apple Silicon native.

CraigS Thanks, hopefully it can be sorted too. I have the same issue with other third-party plugins (FabFilter to name another one) which are all Apple Silicon Native.

I have a second machine which is a 2018 Macbook Pro with intel chip which I can confirm has the same issue inside Screenflow 10. I can add a third-party plugin but no GUI or even basic sliders. If I run Screenflow 9 on the same machine they function as normal.

Alex Shore based on your other thread, is this also the Mac App Store version of ScreenFlow?
It's possible that Apple Sandbox is coming into play.
Would you download the trial version from our website and see if the issue exists there as well?
Is 9.0.7 Mac App Store as well?

@CraigS  The website version will load up the third-party plugins it seems yes. So it could be a sandbox issue. Is there any way around the sandbox or can it be fixed in an update? Or would it be better to get a refund for the App Store version and use the website version?

The 9.0.7 is the website version. I upgraded to 10 today and having it on three machines was more cost-effective to go the mac app store route.

Yes as Apple Sandboxing doesn't have a workaround. It's a security protocol. If you want to get a refund to switch and run into MAS issues with that then send an email to desktopsales@telestream.net and attach a receipt with confirmation of purchase, or send a screenshot from the Mac App Store—view your account's list of Purchased apps, and make sure ScreenFlow shows in the list. We will respond with a link to upgrade to a Telestream license.

CraigS Is there a way to make sure the Mac App Store version is completely removed from the machine other than dragging the app to trash? Do you have a terminal command for example or instructions? Thanks

Due to Sandboxing the Mac App Store is self-contained so trashing it should work.

      CraigS Thanks.

I've given the website version a try and the plugins load. However, it makes it impossible to use.

Whenever I add any AU plugins, third-party or native Apple AU it makes Screenflow hang and beachball for a good amount of time and audio waveforms never load which unfortunately makes it completely unusable once again.

I need to downgrade back to 9.0.7 as this is hopeless. Where can I get a download link to the previous version please?

There are issues with some third party AU plugins. Now that you're on the website version try resetting ScreenFlow using Shift Help Gather ScreenFlow Diagnostics Reset. it's possible the waveform cache may need to be reset as well. I can explain that after you do the above and still see the issue.

CraigS Thanks, so far the same issue...

It might even be the same using Apple AU plugins for example AUPeakLimiter

You've done a ScreenFlow Reset and you're still getting beachball on the website version with third-party and built-in AU plugins. You are getting the controls though?

CraigS I've done the ScreenFlow Reset through the diagnostics in the help menu. I'm now using the web version (trial version currently as I won't upgrade if it's this buggy). I get the Beachball when adding third-party plugins. It does seem now that the built-in AU plugins are fine.

      Controls are showing up.

Alex Shore We'd like the "hang" report (that is what seeing beachball usually refers to).

In Apple's Activity Monitor, select ScreenFlow (it may be red and shot not responding if hung)
select SampleProcess and Spindump as well and attach those here. It will often tell us the process being hung.

Alex Shore Can you please confirm you do not get beachball in 9.0.7. Given what we're seeing as the cause in the logs you posted, this issue should occur in 9.0.7 on the same computer as there's would be no change in ScreenFlow's function relative to the actions being performed by the plugin.

CraigS Yes I've just done another test of this. I get the hang issue in version 10 but not in version 9.

I was using 9.0.7 previously before using 10 and no issues. Now I've downgraded to 9.0.5 and that also has no issues. I went back to 9.0.5 instead of 9.0.7 as the iPad orientation issue seems to be correct for me in the .5 version too.

That's certainly important information.  Please respond in that thread regarding ScreenFlow versions for iPad issue.
