Rendezvous Bandwidth Requirement

I am being asked how much up/down speed my guests will need on their end when they call in using Rendezvous.  Any insights on that would be most appreciated.

Has that been revised after changes were made to the video quality used by Rendezvous?

  • Is there a large bandwidth difference between having multiple guests through Skype NDI or using Rendezvous?

Case: Myself and 4 co-hosts throughout the show - though only myself and one other will ever be simultaneously on screen for a couple of minutes here and there. I've been using NDI through Skype, but thinking about switching to Rendezvous and wanted to know if Rendezvous using up significantly more bandwidth in this scenario.

    thanks!

Peter Schwinge We do have Rendezvous bandwidth recommendations but I'm not sure if we've compared to Skype.

Of course one way to get an approximation is just do a Skype call without using Wirecast at all and you'll have a good idea what Skype uses. Skype, I believe like Rendezvous may make adjustments based on guest bandwidth availability as well.

NDI itself has a range of bandwidth it can use over a network. One of the reasons for the newer NDI HX is that it's more bandwidth-efficient than "full" NDI.

    • CraigS Thanks, Craig. I'm familiar with the WC rec's which my download can easily handle for 4 guests - it's the upload that concerns me.  I wasn't aware of the NDI HX, thanks for pointing that out, I'll take a look.

Peter Schwinge Keep in mind that Skype and Rendezvous communication over the internet is separate from NDI communication within the Local Area Network. Network and Internet bandwidth are separate. Although there are now tools that can use NDI over the internet as well.
