Why does Wirecast forget my settings every time I quit?

Hi folks,

I've been streaming for about 2 months, 3x per week and have reset my camera/ video settings every single time I open the app. Wirecast seems to forget my cameras entirely and when I plug everything back in, it renames all the cameras so it can't find them. I need to "change" the capture device to the same camera it was before, although the name and video settings are now gone or reset. And often, my microphones and system audio capture are way off too.

At the end of each stream, I save and shutdown. When I open the app again I get messages that: "Media stored in this document cannot be found." It lists my cameras and all the names it renamed the cameras in different sessions. Do I need to reconnect each of these devices every time I open the app?

Writing this, I'm amazed I have started accepting this as my normal.

What the heck am I missing. Any help would be appreciated!

Is there a setting I have wrong?

Updates to Wirecast include bug fixes. The last version of that series was 11.1.2 and the current version is 12.1.1. In Wirecast preferences please leave Automatically check for updates if you aren't going to check them frequently manually.

  • Agree with Craig, make sure Wirecast is current. Also, make sure that your capture card and your cameras are on before you open Wirecast. If your capture device is not functioning when you open Wirecast, it will probably not remember the cameras. Also, what capture device are you using?

  • The same thing happens to me, regardless how anything is plugged in or when it is powered on. What seems to have made a difference for me is restarting my iMac. That seems to be the point when my 1080p24 signal gets reset to a 360p signal. If I leave my iMac powered on, however, this doesn't seem to occur.

  • Michael Nichols Please explain further. The current version is Wirecast 13.1.3 and this should work.

  • CraigS This issue still occurs for me. I am using Wirecast 13.1.3. I set Wirecast to receive video from my Magewell HDMI Capture Card Gen 2 (USB 3.0) on my iMac at 1080p 24fps. If I quit Wirecast then relaunch it, everything stays the same. However, if I shut down or restart my iMac, the settings in Wirecast are not preserved and are instead reset to 360p, which makes no sense because the capture card is receiving a 1080p signal.

  • Michael Nichols additionally, I have tried powering on all devices before opening Wirecast, as well as after. Neither seems to make a difference. The determining factor seems to be restarting my iMac, but nothing else is impacted, so it seems unlikely that the problem is the iMac.

Please explain what settings are changing to 360p as that can refer to any number of settings in Wirecast.

Please explain which model iMac and what OS?

    • CraigS Sorry for the massive delay in responding. The settings I'm referring to are "System Device Properties" > "Video Settings" : the setting should be 1920x1080, but every time I reboot my iMac (and sometimes when I don't), it reverts to what you see, which doesn't seem to make sense.

      iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019)

      macOS version 10.15.6

      Wirecast version 13.1.3

The connected Device is the Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2.

The camera it is capturing is a JVC GY-HM150U.

I've scoured every manual and every setting I can, and nothing seems to solve the issue.

Michael Nichols Since your last post we've released a public beta that might have impacted this. Please try Wirecast 14 Public Beta and see if this is still occurring.

When you reboot the computer first test with camera on and Magewell attached.
If that works then test the second scenario which is simply opening the document after rebooting and seeing if the settings are still retained. Again test this with the Wirecast 14 Beta.
