Wirecast Go and the beta

Hello!  I've had great luck with Wirecast go on my iphones using 14, but I've tried multiple times and tried a few tricks but Wirecast go does not work on 15 for me yet.  My phone will connect to wirecast, but it immediately freezes or at best, streams in like 2 seconds clips with freezing between clips.  I can look at the wirecast go app and it has a little timer in the top left, and it'll clearly show 0:00 and then count to 0:01, blink, and then go back to 0:00.  Anyone else have any luck with wirecast go?   I don't know how many people use it, but I actually bought wirecast because of Wirecast GO.  Having a nice wireless camera is super useful for my set up and I don't wanna lose it.

How are you using Wirecast Go? Rendezvous? Over wifi or wired USB?
Have you compared beta 15 to 14.3.4 on the same computer?

It's working over WiFi for me in Beta 15 on macOS 11.6.2

     And the phone. iOS 15.2.1

  • Thanks for the response, Sorry I was away for a few days!  I am just using Wirecast Go on my phone 11 over the wifi.  It worked execptionally well for the most part on 14.3.4.  I am using the same computer, (window 10) and my same iphone 11.  I've been trying a couple times a week and I'm still getting the same results of the start and immediate stopping.

Can you use wirecast go with a wired usb into the computer as a input in wirecast?  I've tried using a lighting to hdmi converter and that kinda worked but it often had issues, so a wired usb sounds like an interesting idea as a back up!

    • william Medved I should mention that I did download and reinstall the wirecast go app and still have the same issue.

    • william Medved here’s exactly what I’m talking about reproduced on two different iPhone 11s with my same wirecast setup that both used to function quite well.

william Medved Love the bunnies. I'd like to see what you're doing in Wirecast as well. Please confirm the version of iOS on the phone
You may be having a wifi issue for example.

Again it's working well for me and there are no other reports of this so far.
I'd suggest you also roll back to 14.3.4 and test in that.

  • Thanks! The Bunnies are the star of the stream!  My iphone is ios 15.1

I did some testing and I got rendezvous working through 4G signal with my iphone.  Oddly, I couldn't receive video feed of the stream on my phone.  I was then able to connect to wifi while still in the same rendezvous session and it seemed to work pretty well.  I then went to try it again on just the iphone iOS Cam shot and the same thing happened, start and stop extremely quickly.

It's strange that it wouldn't have an issue in rendezvous but will go crazy in the iOS cam shot.

I shut everything down, wirecast and phone, and on the third time it connected and didn't have an issue! That's so strange! I wish I knew what demons were haunting my computer/iphone!

Here's a screen shot of my home screen so you can see how im using the ios cam.

Did you say I could hook it up through USB and get the same effect of using it through wifi?

william Medved Epoccam is very popular. In some regards a few features may be platform-specific depending on how we implement them.

Again testing in 14.3.4 would confirm whether something changed about the beta. Also testing in other Windows app directly would indicate an OS limitation. EpocCam on the other hand was specifically developed for this purpose and that's likely why Elegato sells it.

Wirecast Go connects to Wirecast Windows but if you're hardwired lightning to USB that is not a Go specific feature. It's the OS detecting the phone as a video source directly which is why you see the entire screen and not just the camera input (which is what Go processes).

The iPhone will work lightning to USB and show up in Wirecast. It will show under Video Capture (and the name of the iPhone). Using this way it shows the iOS "desktop" rather than just the camera. The camera will show the icons so if you want to use the camera you may want to run a "clean" camera app.

Interesting about the odd wifi issues. Sometimes the router itself might need to be rebooted if it happens again.

    • CraigS Hey Craig!  Sorry for bringing this up, idk why if it's me or bad luck, but even though my computer recognizes my iphone when I plug it in with a lightning to usb cable, it doesn't show up in wirecast under video capture.  My computer, windows 10, does the "what do you want to do when device is connected, so I select open files, and on my phone it says "click ok to trust this computer" kinda prompt.  I'm using the current beta.  I'd love for this to work so bad. I could add 2 more decent cameras and not have to use my capture cards.  Tried restarting both multiple times.  Tried having it plugged in before launching wirecast and vice versa. Tried plugging in to different usbs, different cords, it's just weird that my computer definitely sees it, but not in wirecast.

That's to transfer files, not use as a live source. Can you get the iPhone to show live in any other software?

Did this work in Wirecast 14.3.4?

      It's a Mac only feature I believe.

    • CraigS after looking around for a way to see my iPhone camera feed I came across an app called EpocCam which apparently has your windows or Mac computer recognize the iPhone as a webcam so it’s compatible with OBS, zoom, and Microsoft teams. If that’s the case, wirecast should be able to be use it as a “webcam” under the video sources right?

I didn’t try it on the 14 wirecast, I’ll be honest, I’ve never actually went backwards in updates because I like my setup so much I’m scared to lose anything!

Too bad wirecast sees it without outside apps on mac and not windows, but if this is works this would be a game changer for me.  I’ll test it out when I get home from work and I’ll report back.
