Mouse Pointer disappearing in SF9 screen recording

I made a SF screen capture about 30 minutes in length. After recording, I noticed that at about the 1 minute mark, the mouse pointer completely disappears from the recording and does not re-appear. Has anyone experienced this, and been able to resolve it?

A couple things to note here:

- I did not manually hide the mouse pointer, I'm aware you can re-size it, hide and show.
- I've already tried hiding the mouse and then showing it.
- I've already tried playing with the pointer zoom to see if it's a zoom glitch (0% zoom for example).

This is one of dozens of glitches I've had with SF8, SF9 and SF10 over the past few years that just infuriates me and makes me want to pull my hair out, because I'm constantly having to re-record work, because of SF glitching out on me, or giving me stupid errors that make no sense.

It may depend on what programs you were recording and hardware may be a factor as well. ScreenFlow gets its information from the GPU and some programs interact with the GPU in such a way that can cause this.

I understand your frustration but for accurate troubleshooting, you'd have to include details so we could theoretically match your workflow. We can't troubleshoot general statements. Depending on the setup it may or may not be caused by ScreenFlow. if you provide complete details I'll be happy to help.

I'd note that development has largely stopped on ScreenFlow 9 which has been replaced by ScreenFlow 10.

  • The app I was recording is Ableton Live 11, a music production application. It's weird because the mouse pointer disappeared right after I did a "save as". As soon as I hit the save button the pointer disappears. I read through some other posts that this is actually a macOS issue, which if that is true, it makes sense that the pointer disappears right after a macOS dialog pops up to save. I could send you the project, but I already re-recorded it.

I still use SF9 because my work has not upgraded yet, even though I own SF10 personally.

What OS? Recent macOS require 9.0.7. It's also possible the issue may have been addressed in 10. You may want to do a test record in 10.0.4. There likely won't be any fixes to 9 series. You may also want to test just recording the desktop/finder with nothing running on it. It's possible that it's Ableton and OS combination.

  • I'm on Mac OS 12.1 Monterrey. Not really by choice, but I had to for another beta app I was testing. I'll test it out in SF10.
