System audio sharing via Rendezvous

It would be great if people can share their system audio during a Rendezvous session instead of (or together with) the audio from their microphone.

So if they share their screen, play a clip, you hear the audio from the clip in Rendezvous/Wirecast.

  • I'm wondering how we should go about this. Do you think it would require the user to install a sound driver?

      CraigS I not a programmer, I'm and end user, so I don't know 😅

I know this is possible in the whereby online application without installing any software or a driver.

Raoul do you get both system sound and the presenter's audio being sent?

nuno filipe barradas One possibility might be for the guest to use two browsers. One for their own audio and the other for the system sound. Use Chrome for one and Firefox for the other.

You may need a third party system sound audio capture and routing utility.

Of course, it would be easiest to use one browser to send both.

  • I have used the same browser with an incognito tab. But for a speaker less used with IT, it is an horror to tell them that way when they are remotly sharing!

nuno filipe barradas Granted it defeats "ease of use" which is a goal of Rendezvous.

nuno filipe barradas I'd note that system sound generally does require a sound capture driver and/or a way to hijack system sound and/or a way to virtual cable sound from a program (video file player for example).

Developers looking this request note that it currently can't be done on Mac as there's no API to implement. It's theoretically possible on Windows but might only be through certain browsers like Chrome.

Basically, WebRTC doesn't support pulling in system sound.

The workaround would be do use a virtual cables variant from the file player with the audio which Rendezvous may see as a device input.

nuno filipe barradas Those are stand-alone applications.
Rendezvous uses WebRTC and third party browsers.
