Unable to start recording Desktop

I'm running ScreenFlow Pro 9.0.2 (31509) on MacOS Catalina 10.15.3. When I start to record, I get the following dialog:

But I have it enabled in the control panel as seen here:

Any idea on how to get this to work, or debug it? Thanks in advance.

The other monitor is an iPad Pro (2018 model) running iPad OS 14.4.2 connected via Sidecar

Sidecar will have compatibility issues at the moment. It will be supported in the next version of ScreenFlow.

  • Awesome thanks for helping me identify the source of the issue. "Next version" = next dot release or major release e.g. ScreenFlow 10?

Yup. It'll be one of our biggest best upgrades we think. Not just features but performance as well.

  • Same issues here, I just bought the new version of Screenflow. I have a MacbookPro (2016): macOS Big Sur 11.3.1 (latest update). I work with my Macbook and two extra monitors HP 27f 4K connected via a DisplayLink 5K. All the same settings things here above. Now I removed everything and hope it will work when I replace the last version of ScreenFlow. I'm very disapponted and it's a bad Start with Screenflow for me. It already cost me 1 whole day trying to fix it. I'm still not able to record my trainings. Already Send an second email to Screenflow support.

As per my previous post, this will be fixed in the next upgrade. DisplayLink is a known issue much as Sidecar has been and required significant work. These are not standard direct monitor connections. Sorry about the issue but the fix is done and being tested.

We always offer a free trial so you can test before you buy. You can report such issues without owning ScreenFlow so we can work on them to see if we can meet your expectations before you purchase.

Did you mention DisplayLink to support?
FLOW-10791 as the issue is resolved and being tested.

  • I am having this same issue.  Am I understanding that I won't be able to use Screenflow until you come out with an update?  I am having a hard time with that if that's the case.  If so when do you expect this update to be out?  My business and income is either put on hold or I find a better software to use.

  • We are historical screenflow users: VERY satisfied users with this software.

Unfortunately I run into the problem that everyone is reporting here.
I do not use a secondary screen, the permissions are well assigned to screenflow which was working correctly a few months ago (latest version 9).

If I understand correctly, we have to wait for an update? Can you specify: a corrective update of version 9 or version 10?

If we have to wait several weeks, I see no other solution than to turn to other software (Camtasia not to mention it). When choosing a product like yours from a company, we cannot afford to wait for a known major bug to be fixed.

Thanks in advance for a clear answer.
    regards

Jody Duron support algodata  This is something that changed in macOS 11.4 which now requires ScreenFlowHelper specifically rather than just the ScreenFlow application.

      Solution posted in this thread.

  • I'm running into this issue with ScreenFlow 10. To summarize, it looks like the things to try here would be:

    1. Make sure the correct version of ScreenFlow has screen recording permissions (since it can be an older version if you've updated) then try again

    2. If that doesn't work, restart your machine then try again

    3. If that doesn't work, try upgrading ScreenFlow then try again

Am I missing anything else mentioned in the thread?

Brady Dowling Did you follow the steps in the linked thread?
They are different than the one you posted. The solution is in that thread, not this for the current issue around Big Sur 11.4
