Streaming setup to reduce CPU usage
Hello fellow wirecast users! I streamed last night and saw my cpu usage spike up 100% for a second or two and then it caused audio delays making us stop streaming, waiting a second, and then back to live streaming to fix it . I have a lot of videos in my shots, I know this is the main culprit. I know using a different computer to play the video and capturing it is an option, but I have so many videos and in the top and bottom layer, I’m not sure how it would work with my current workflow for the stream op. I’d love to have everything done on 1 computer just for ease of setup, but I’m definitely open to hear what everyone uses to keep their streams running smooth!
Playing just a video will spike the cpu usage for a few seconds and then go back down to around 7-20%. But I also have 2 quad hdmi capture cards that are used to capture 6 cameras and a couple computers. Would having a black magic atem solve my cpu woes or is there no other way around it aside from capturing video from a different computer when I play videos.
some notes for those that want to know
*live icons are turned off*
Wirecast version 14.3.4
ryzen 3700x card that isn’t over clocked *looked into it but really not effective*
videos I’m using are 720 (not 4K or anything)
So I tried out the beta and Wow, what a difference! Stuff that would normally cause my cpu to go around 40-50% was barely breaking 10%. That’s a huge improvement. The only thing I noticed is that it seems to automatically refresh shot icons “even with live shot icons off” and that will cause 100% cpu spike. Typically recreatable by opening a up a playlist and returning to the main shot list.
