Screenflow 10: Where are the effects? (Mask to alpha, False Color, Hue...)

Hello! I just installed Screenflow 10 and I am a bit concerned that I can't find these effects that I use a lot. Is there any way to have them back?

  • Hi Alejandro Hernández : Do you have a list of the filters you use on a regular basis?

    • Hello! Simon Clarke

      In order of importance:

      1. Mask to Alpha
      2. False Color
      3. Hue Adjust
      4. Vignette Effect
      5. White Point Adjust
      6. Zoom Blur
      7. Spot Light

The reason it's so important for me its because of screenflow's lack of blending modes. I throw in overlays (particles, smoke, light leaks...) then use false color to adjust the color and sometimes I add spotlight to turn it into a gradient.

There's a lot of creative things I do with a combination of those that I am sad to not see in the new screenflow. I very much love the inclusion of LUTs tho!

    • Alejandro Hernández : Thanks for that.  We're working on restoring more of the filters in a future update (in the not too distant future)

Well, this is disappointing. I use many filters and effects just as @Alejandro Hernández. Now I cannot modify or adjust filters and effects in projects that are in midstream.

Tom Pile As per above, there's more work to be done. Sometimes better coding takes a bit of time and prioritization.

      Do list your priority filters.

CraigS Yes. Interestingly, they were not there the first time I opened an in-progress project in v10, but each time I re-opened the application, it seemed that a few more options populated the filters window. We're good.

CraigS Fantastic. Looks like most of the filters from previous version have been restored. Thanks for the heads-up.

Hello! Is mask to alpha on the way? I still very much need this and it's making it impossible for me to fully transition into screenflow 10 yet.

Or if you wanna skip mask to alpha, adding blending modes would be a huge win. For real, screenflow only needs blending modes to be such a powerful and friendly VFX tool.

  • I wanna bump this thread with a trick I just discovered on how to bring up old effects that are not in the current screenflow 10 list.

First, you need to go to screenflow 9. And save a preset only using the desired effect.

Then you need to bring screenflow 9 preferences into screenflow 10. (This way your preset migrates into 10)

By the way, to do the preferences migration thing, I will paste what I was told via email, this worked great:

    1) Make sure ScreenFlow is not open. (save any work in progress)
    2) Open a new Finder window.
    3) Select the "GO" menu top of screen, Hold "Option" key with menu open, and select the "Library" that appears.
    4) In the Library folder open Preferences folder.
    5) Delete the "net.telestream.screenflow10.plist" file and rename your "net.telestream.screenflow9.plist" file "net.telestream.screenflow10.plist"

Now, your preset will show up in screenflow 10. You just gotta load the preset.

I know It's not very elegant solution of course but at least I can bring up mask to alpha now which was very much needed.

Alejandro Hernández Thanks for that workflow tip/workaround. Of course, we are looking at a way to implement it officially.
