USB camera recording issues

Screenflow 10 records mac's built-in camera properly.

However, when I plug in my SONY alpha 5100 through an usb capture card, it takes the 16:9 video and stretches it to 4:3. It's annoying. Screenflow 9 recorded that same camera on the same computer properly.

Interestingly, when setting up the recording and rendering the preview of the camera image, it's shown in 16:9 ratio. But in the recording monitor and the recording itself, it's stretched to 4:3.

Best,
Mat

     Which capture card?
What camera output settings and what settings in ScreenFlow Configure Recording?

Can you provide a visual example?

    Which Mac Model and macOS?

What is the behavior in Quicktime Movie recording?

Have you updated to ScreenFlow 10.0.2 and checked again?

  • It's a no name capture card from amazon https://www.amazon.com/Capture-Streaming-Teaching-Conference-Broadcasting/dp/B095JL29VS/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=capture+card&qid=1624979808&sr=8-6

It's MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019, Intel i9, 64GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 5600M 8GB with macOS Big Sur

I'm running the latest ScreenFlow version as of time of writing - 10.0.2

    Quicktime Movie records properly.

tried both 'Automatic' and '1280x720' - neither fixed the problem.

Mat Milbury I have the same capture device.
When you capture it in ScreenFlow 10 what do you see here?

      To get there after capture.

      Tested on
      M1 MBP macOS 11.4
      ScreenFlow 10
      Sony PXW-Z90v set to 1920x1080.
      Shows as 1024x728

      ScreenFlow 9 is 1920x1080
      Quicktime Movie recording is 1920x1080

Looks like ScreenFlow 10 may be squishing the image.
Please check Metadata in ScreenFlow 10 as shown above to confirm

While in ScreenFlow 9 the resulting recording is 1920x1080 and so does Quicktime Movie.

CraigS I am getting these results after my paid upgrade, regardless of what settings I choose. Frustrating. Using EsthePro 1080p web camera on MacBook Pro 16 inch-2019, 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, BigSur 11.4

Do you have another webcam you can test with to compare?
How is the camera connected and which Mac Model and macOS?

CraigS the built-in camera works fine, except that it is only 720, and looks terrible by itself, which is why I have been using the external 1080p with no problems until upgrading this morning.

Camera has always been connected via Apple USB dongle to USB-c.

CraigS I have not used QuickTime to record before, but it seems to just default to built-in webcam, which is not an issue with Screenflow.

Recording the webcam in Quicktime. You can choose external cameras and webcams.

Blaine Hoffmann And in ScreenFlow 10.0.2 what frame size are you seeing after the recording?

Using a Logitech C920 I have no issue with the frame rate but the frame size is 1024x576 although it should be 1920x1080

CraigS Where would I check this? I set it to record in 1920 x 1080, but it always inserts smaller when adding to the timeline. Color is washed out and framerate off.
