HD camera options for live to YT/Twitch?

Hi everyone,

I've been streaming live to YT for about 2 years, using Logitech webcams. When we set up our system, those were the go-to cameras for ease-of-use, one-click operation. Some people had been able to use some Panasonic handicams, but we couldn't get them to work, or get the info off the screen.

2 years later, I can't stand the Logitechs low res. They look grainy and blocky and behind the times. I'm tempted to go back to just recording the shows (instead of airing live), and we could use DSLRs or GoPros, but I hope there's been some developments in the last 2 years?

What do you all use to stream in HQ video? I'm decently tech-capable, and I can learn, but I'm not a trained sound/video engineer.

Thanks!

  • Canon Vixia and Magewell HDMI to USB3 might be a good option.

  • CraigS You like that Magewell better than the Black Magic setup?

  • Zack Klapman I do like the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder but it does require a computer with a Thunderbolt port (and a TB2 to TB3 adaptor on recent computers). It also requires a driver. The Magewell is plug and play. So it depends on the computer and the convenience.

  • Is there any way to connect my Panasonic GH4's to Wirecast?  I have 2 and a MBP with usb-c, but with conversion options for standard usb ports.  Like yourself my C920's are boring me to death with the lack of res.

Blackmagic Mini Recorder would require Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 converter. Some of the USB3 devices support 4K. The 4K version of the MiniRecorder is also available and does go to Thunderbolt 3 directly.
