"Start Over" option when Discarding a Recording

Camtasia has a very handy option that allows you to "Start Over" a recording after you've messed up.

What you do now:

  1. Start the Recording (3, 2, 1... counter)
  2. mess up
  3. Stop the Recording, choosing the "Discard" option
  4. Start the Recording (3, 2, 1... counter)

What you would do with the new feature

  1. Start a Recording (3, 2, 1... counter)
  2. mess up
  3. Stop the Recording, choosing "Start Over" in the dialog the new Registration automatically starts (3, 2, 1... counter)

Thanks!

  • Interesting idea. The developers are especially interested in reference features in the competition. Please do fill out the Feature Request Form so we can send you a case number for this one.

    • Hi CraigS ,

I've updated to the latest version but alas the feat's not there yet, do you think we can 🤞🏻it'll make it sometime in the future? 😊

      Thanks!

Davide Barranca Given the Discard function already implemented the developers need to know if there's a considerable advantage. Consider "Start Over" still needs to do a discard. Please fill out the above form I posted so you can explain directly to the developers.

    • Hi CraigS ,

I've filled the feat. request form.

True, Discard already exists, but you have to manually 1. Stop first, and THEN 2. Discard, and THEN 3. Restart. It's three clicks, enough to lose your concentration.

With Start Over, you're recording, you mess up, it's just *one* click and you find yourself back in a new recording.

I hope the developers will be able to see the advantage, i.e. 3 needlessly distracting clicks vs. a single click. With a keyboard shortcut you could start over even faster.

Believe me, when you mess up the less friction between you and a new recording exists, the better :-)

      Thanks!
