Alpha Channel Not Working...

With Screenflow 9, on a 2018 MBP, the imported media file (lower third) worked fine with alpha.  After upgrading to M1Max and Screenflow 10, the alpha channel does not work.  I have attached the pro res movie info from QuickTime, as well as a screenshot of Screenflow with said video's alpha not working.

     Made sure you've updated to 10.0.4 from earlier versions of 10.
    Do check the file in iMovie as well. There may be an issue with M1Max and Alpha channels that isn't limited to ScreenFlow. Investigation FLOW-11354

    • CraigS Everything works in iMovie and I'm on the most current version of SF.  I have attached a screenshot (1 of 2).  I just added a background, stuck the lower third on top of it... and it works fine.  Another weird thing is that the thumbnail-sized preview in the media browser of ScreenFlow appears to show the lower third with the alpha background.  I have attached a screenshot for that too where the thumbnail-sized preview appears to have the alpha. It just doesn't show correctly when adding to the timeline, nor when exporting.

     We must have the version number. Sometimes users are mistaken. Please check to make sure you're on 10.0.4.

      13" M1 MBP

      So perhaps this is an M1Pro/Max-specific issue.

    • CraigS  Just wanted to follow up.  After seeing that the alpha channel in .mov files fix was included in the 10.0.5 update, I can confirm this did fix my issue.  Thanks.

      David Samuel This was fixed in the 10.0.5 release for ProRes 4:4:4:4, you refer to.
      So you'll have to provide more information. You can see Brandon in this thread verified the fix who seems to be on either an M1Pro or M1Max.

  • Hi I just purchased screenflow 10. Was a 9 user but 9 not great on M1. Have the latest version as only downloaded today and I can confirm that my M1 Max 64 GB does not export with Alpha. I get a black background. Now just for clarity this is while recording my iPhone.

       I think the confusion is this thread is about playing back alpha. Please don't post to threads if it's not the same issue. 

      You should start a separate post for that otherwise support can't track. Export to Alpha is broken on M1 Pro/Max computers. That's a known issue.

      well I was brought to this thread after searching on Google. So apologies as reading some of the previous posts it’s all quite confusing and would have been good to know that it was broken before I purchased it yesterday.  Feels not fit for purpose to me. If there is no planned fix I should request a refund.

    I'm not sure why you'd assume that. Fix is being worked on for Alpha export. We fixed Alpha Playback first because that needed to work in order for export with Alpha to work. Depending on the issue some things need to be fixed for subsequent fixes to happen. If we can get out one fix while working on the subsequent fix we do that. Otherwise, we'd end up holding up a release until all related fixes are done.
