Audio Waveform Not Showing Without Processing

Recently, the audio waveform was not showing in my recording timeline. I'm a long-time screenflow user, and the audio waveform was always visible. I found that when I checked the "Processing - smooth volume levels" checkbox, the audio waveform appeared. Up until recently (on my IMac running Big Sur), the audio waveform appeared without having to check the processing checkbox. I don't know what caused this, but thought others may find this info useful.

See the before and after images.

  • I'm not sure what you mean. In both images (before/after) the waveform is showing. Obviously in the "before" version it's a lot lower but it's definitely there.

I'm guessing you may need new glasses :) or perhaps you uploaded the wrong "before" image. At any rate all looks fine to me. It does look like your microphone (whatever it is) is recording at a pretty low level. I don't know if you are using the Mac's mic or something else. But low isn't necessarily bad as long as the audio input is clean.

When referring to ScreenFlow keep in mind version 10 was just released and the behavior may have been improved. Please check in ScreenFlow 10.
