Red "?" driving me crazy
I have been using WireCast for live broadcasting for several years. Recently, for reasons I don't understand, all of my shots contain a large red question mark in the middle. The blank shots show a black background and a large red "?". Opaque shots show the question mark only during transitions in or out. Semi- transparent shots show the question mark in the background. I'm sure there is a simple fix. But I can't figure it out. Please help. Thanks.

Wirecast is not finding the original media.
This can also happen when some video capture cards are rescanned when starting Wirecast compared to a previous state.John Baughman said:
I'm sure there is a simple fix.Change the settings in Wirecast Preferences if you would want something other than the red question mark.
You may need to reassign any media that appears as red in the Wirecast Asset Manager.

his does not explain to me why pre-existing or newly created blank shots all show a red "?" This doesn't involve the need to find original media. Please include complete details. We need information that allows us to reproduce the issue.

Why would WC have trouble finding the original media of the shot I've just created? There's a number of possibilities been we'd need more information beyond speculation.

I just created a new instance of WC and populated it with the shots and other configurations from the old onePerhaps the previous document became corrupted.
The red ? means Wirecast path to the sources can't be found. Where those sources are, what those sources are, what the directory path is, the types of characters used in those paths, changes to the source files, opening a document created in a previous version in some cases, opening a document created on another computer or with a different user account on the same comptuer are just some of the reasons this can happen. -
This is crazy and driving me crazy as well. Why have that question mark feature show up in transitions???? There are no media missing - all are linked and the above setting is set for transparent but for some reason between everyone transition the question mark appears…. Who cares if there is one asset that might not be linked and is not being used. Why have that show up in live switching when it is even not needed
