Did iOS 10 break screen capture in ScreenFlow?

I'm wondering what others' experience is. I can't seem to get it to work with iOS 10 devices, but can get it to work with iOS 9 devices.

ScreenFlow 6.1,  OSX 10.11.6, iPhone 6 with iOS 10. My first attempted failed. I then tested in Quicktime X and got it to work there after a couple of tries. I then got it to work in ScreenFlow.

Try getting it to work in Quicktime X first.

  • I was also able to record an iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 10.0.1 (14A403) using ScreenFlow 6.1

  • I am 99% sure it is an iOS 10 bug because ever since upgrading, the Lightning connection has been flipping in and out of connectivity - charging, then not charging, etc. Dropbox also randomly detects and then undetects my iPhone since upgrading to iOS 10. You may be trying to record from your iPhone during one of those random fits iOS 10 seems to produce… but I cannot confirm that I am correct, only a theory at this point.

I just tried to record my iPhone 6+, using Screenflow 6.1 and it did not work. I tried again and it did work.

Here is what I did to troubleshoot and get it working:

    1. Quit Screenflow and launch Screenflow again WHILE your iOS device is plugged into your Mac
    2. Telestream is awesome enough to archive the older version of Screenflow, launch the previous version and see if it works.

  • Thank you all. So my temporary fix is sort of a combination of what Craig and Jono said. I started it with Quicktime and didn't see it, so I unplugged and plugged the lighting plug from my iPad and my MacBook Pro could then see my iPad. I then tried ScreenFlow and it worked. This isn't ideal, but hopefully this workaround will last until there's an iOS update.

Given that connectivity seems intermittent regardless of software, it does look like an iOS 10 issue.

  • You do not need to download any third-party app screen record, because iOS 11 built-in feature to Screen Recorder is a big advantage of iOS 11. Read this thread Screen Recording in iOS 11 on iPhone

alinajetly interesting. Given the more accessible file perhaps there will be other ways to transfer besides AirDrop such as copying to Photos Library on desktop. As per the issue in this thread, I hope it works on older iOS devices because there's been an ongoing issue with that.
