Maccaption doesn't import .mp4 videos

I'm giving maccaption a spin.

Now, when I wanted to load a .mp4 video recording, I got an error msg.

It's an ipod touch recording I converted to HEVC (H265) in a mp4 output setting in Handbrake.app. The original recording is loaded correctly, but I need the conversion because of size issues (a typical ipod touch recording is 5 Go, whereas the converted HEVC one is about 200 Mb).

Thanks for any help on this.

  • Currently, MacCaption doesn't support HEVC. A good solution would be to make a proxy video. Here's a link to the Knowledge Base article with explanation.

  • ok, any clue concerning a possible timeframe for including HEVC, which is gaining traction as a H264 replacement? Looks like Maccaption hasn't seen a significant update recently.

  • Please do fill out the form and explain your need for HEVC and ask about a roadmap.
